I didn’t always rise early. Then again I didn’t always go to bed early either. I am sure we all go through a stage of staying up late, finding our muse at 2AM, and/or looking for some kind of break through. A sketch book, headphones and music, a laptop and a few ideas: I loved my distraction-free creative time. That was until my beautiful kids came along. As early risers, they didn’t care Dad only got four hours sleep.
But we adapt. With drive and motivation, one door closes and another opens. Being that I go to bed early, I am able to get seven hours of great sleep. Which means I rise early between 5AM and 5:30AM. It’s now in these quiet hours, I start the accent to my best day ever.
<p>For me, I wake with no snooze alarm. I wash my face in cold water followed by a drink of cold tap water. I have clothes laid out from the night before. Ask my wife, I dress in the dark. I make coffee and do a light lift or take a walk. I listen to <a href=”http://dd.darrenhardy.com”>Darren Daily</a>, read, and/or study something of interest. That’s basically my routine, but the internet is your best in finding a routine that works for you. When my day <a href=”https://hbr.org/2010/07/defend-your-research-the-early-bird-really-does-get-the-worm”>starts the right way</a>, I know what I am supposed to be doing and I get at it.</p>
<p>I’ve been practicing this morning routine for over a year and it’s had a tremendous effect on my life, my emotions, and my attitude towards others. It’s been a game changer. Get up early and go, go, go!</p>
